Sir,

With reference to previous correspondence on
tue subject of the junction of the venten-kowloon Railway with tạm Canton-iisakow .ailway, I have the honour to inform you tint the recent destruction of property at Canton seems to be a favour- vle opportunity for considering seriously the proposal of ur. H. Foord to join the two lines by means of a line in the vicinity of the river rather tum by the loop line round the landward side tus city as previously proposed.

ar. Foord's scheme is outlined in the repert
copy of which I malosed in my Confidential leter of the 3rd. of March. As I stated in that letter the Manager of the British Seation of the Canton-Kowloon Railway agrees with .r. Foord tant this connection is by far the most advantageous of the pan. I therefore suggested that är. Faord should prepare an Munte.. the cost of the undertaking and I quote the following, communication on the subject to the Lanager of the Brit
made by er. Foord;-
"The distance from Tại Sha Tau to 4
*(terminus of the Yush ilan milway) is just 3 miles. I m
#cost at £1,000,000 to £1,200,000 but it depends on
*land buying, J.at about one mile could follow từ 1.
